NSC Minerals ice melter is made of high-soluble chloride crystals that dissolve in ice/snow, forming a liquid brine. This salt brine solution has a freezing point lower than water. Smaller crystals dissolve quickly to start the melting action and larger crystals penetrate deeper through the ice layer to the sidewalk or road.
